DAMASCUS - Syria's leadership expects the chances for
peace with neighbouring Israel to be worse under Zipi Livni
than those under outgoing prime minister Ehud Omert, the
official government Syrian daily Tishrin said Wednesday.
'We already know what direction
Livi will take, what her political programme will be and how
far she will stray from the peace track,' the paper
commented.
After Olmert's resignation, the
future of Syria's indirect peace talks with Israel,
negotiated by Turkey, was entirely open, it said.
The Syrian paper's comments
come two days after Israeli President Shimon Peres has
commissioned Foreign Minister Livni to form a new government
after Olmert resigned under corruption allegations.
